Valletta Pizzeria Sotto Makes It To 50 Best Pizzas In The World List
A Maltese eatery in the capital has managed to snag a great honour: one of the planet’s best pizzerias!
The honour went to Valletta’s Sotto Pizzeria, a beloved haunt for the nation’s pizza lovers led by the larger-than-life Fausto Soldini.
“The pizzas at Sotto Pinsa Romana are simple, but far from slap-dash,” writes Big Seven Travel, the international travel and food platform with just under 400,000 followers who compiled the list.
“You can almost taste the love and passion. Roman-style pizzas are thin, long and crispy, topped with fresh ingredients like creamy buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and locally-cured meats. Even Trip Advisor agrees: Sotto Pinsa Roman is the top restaurant in the city and has a mighty five score scoring from over 2,114 customers too.”
Big Seven Travel have compiled a list of the world’s top 50 pizzas for 2022. As well as celebrating those pizzas that honour time-old traditions and techniques, they also consider the pizzas that take the world’s favourite food to a whole new level, be it through sustainably-sourced flour or creative combos.
Meanwhile, the top spot aptly went to an Italian haunt: Napoli’s 10, by world-famous pizzaiolo @diegovitagliano_pizzerie.

So what makes Sotto’s pizza so special? In their own words:
“Our pizza is not better than others’. It’s just different”
“Up to to 72 hours of leavening, four different types of flour and a lot of passion for what we do.”
Pinsa is a Roman style of pizza often referred to as a flatbread. The combination of flours and lengthened fermentation of the mother dough gives it a distinctive light texture that goes down very easily.
The shape is also different, elongated and rectangular. If you want to try it make sure you make a reservation as the restaurant is invariably full.
