Vegan Ġbejna?! This Sliema Deli Is Serving Up Cruelty-Free Gourmet Cheese And Meats
With more vegan places sprouting up across Malta, it’s easier than ever to take the plunge and cut out animal products. But how can you stay true to your Maltese (and therefore dairy and meat infused) roots while still being vegan?
Enter The Vegan Deli and their intricate takes on the classic staple: the ġbejna.
Miriam Sorell, the London-born, Malta-based brainchild behind award-winning cooking blog Mouthwatering Vegan has opened a Sliema Deli, specialising in gourmet, authentically local cheese and meats that are completely animal-free but 100% delectable.
Choose between aged Goztian-style cheeselets that are spiced, peppered and the classic plain ġbejna. They’ve also got some vegan grated parmesan too, a perfect topping to your future pasta dishes.
If you’re looking for some vegan bangers for your mash, the Malta Vegan Deli say their vegan sausages are every bit as good as the classic British version, and it seems their international clientele agree.
Add them to your morning fry-up or bring them to your carnivore friend’s barbecue, these bad boys look amazing and are sure to be a hit.
Speaking of fry-ups and barbecues, they’ve got vegan bacon and burger patties to feast on too!
Check out their online store to browse and make an order. They deliver on Saturdays but you can arrange to pick up from Sliema.
