Get Your Vietnamese Spring Roll Fix At These Six Places In Malta

Lesson 101: Vietnamese spring rolls are totally different than the ones you usually find on a Chinese menu. How?

First of all, the wrapping. Viet rolls are wrapped with rice paper and they’re clear. Vietnamese rolls come fried (usually stuffed with pork) or fresh and filled with seafood, meat or veg.

OK, now that we’ve schooled you, here are some places where you can get some tasty rolls of the Vietnamese kind, right here in Malta.

1. Banh Mi Street Food Truck, Swatar

Their super authentic Viet spring roll offering is fried with pork and shiitake mushrooms. And they only cost 50 cents!

You’ll occasionally see fresh summer rolls on the menu, but only as a special. Make sure to follow them on Facebook for locations and times.

2. YUGTO, Valletta

The imperial fried Vietnamese rolls at YUGTO are super legit. The wrapping is perfectly-fried and will have you wanting more.

3. Hammett’s Gastro Bar, Sliema

Hammett’s offer big fresh spring rolls with grilled mushrooms, cucumber, carrots, spring onion, herbs, ponzu, peanut and hoisin sauce!

Crab is quite an unusual ingredient for a Vietnamese roll.

This Asian fusion restaurant offers just that. Their crab rice paper rolls come with mung bean noodles, cucumber, carrots, coriander, mint and tamarind dipping sauce.

5. Rickshaw Restaurant, Attard

Grab some fancy lobster spring rolls with mango, coriander, served with nuoc cham sauce.

6. Hugo’s Lounge, St Julian’s

East meets West with the fusion flavours of Hugo Lounge’s rolls.

These come in the form of three pieces of rice paper rolls, prepared with various filling and served with lemon coriander sauce.
