WATCH: Malta’s Miss World 2011 Model Launches ASMR Mukbang Channel
Claire Busuttil, the model that represented Malta during Miss World 2011 and went on to create one of the most important OG memes on the island, has been uploading some unique mukbang videos.
A mukbang – or meokbang in Korean – is an eating show where a host consumes various quantities of food while interacting with the audience. It became popular in South Korea in 2010, and since then has become a huge worldwide trend, including in Malta.
Combined with ASMR – or autonomous sensory meridian response, which is when a host will speak softly into a microphone in a style viewers enjoy – it can be quite an experience; just check out Chucky Bartolo’s 2019 video featuring Maltese bread in Maltese to get an idea.
She’s taken on everything from Maltese platters to Mexican food to pasta and lobster, and while it is still early days for her young channel, she’s already getting a positive response from viewers.
“Love it – now that’s what I call Malta on a plate… keep it up,” said one viewer.
“I’m really enjoying watching a Maltese ASMR artist,” said another before jumping into a request. “Prosit – and next time do one on linguine with chicken and mushroom sauce.”
Busuttil had shot to virality a decade ago when an interview during her stint as Malta’s representative at Miss World 2011 went off the rails slightly.
However, she’s since owned the moment, saying:
“I’m not embarrassed about it now – yes guys, you can laugh at me all you want, I laugh at myself all the time, I don’t care – but it went viral.”
Now that she’s back in front of the camera, we can expect to see more of Busuttil and some delicious foodie spreads – just make sure you keep your voice down while watching.
