Watch: ‘We’re Not In A Play School’ – MasterChef Judge Warns Young Contestant Not To Cry
Last night’s MasterChef Malta episode got a bit spicy when judge Victor Borg warned a young contestant not to cry in the kitchen.
With the remaining chefs taking over the kitchen of the renowned Asian fusion restaurant Amami and serving food to Shark Tank Malta judges, the pressure was on.
At one point, young contestant Pia Pellegrini Petit was preparing a sushi roll and started panicking that her dish was falling apart.
Judge Victor Borg overheard her and paid short shrift to her concerns.
“This isn’t the place for tears, Pia,” he warned her.
The young chef managed to keep her cool, telling Borg that she wasn’t crying, but the judge pressed on and reminded her that she has cried on the show before.
“Yes, I’ve cried several times, but I’m not crying now,” she responded.
“I hope you don’t cry again because we’re in a kitchen, not a play school,” Borg warned.
Speaking to MasterChef afterwards, Pellegrini Petit said it was a frustrating experience.
“You never want to disappoint the judges with what you’re doing,” she said. “Even though it’s our first time in the kitchen and we’ve never done something like this, they expect a higher standard from us. So you try your best. It’s difficult to hear the critique but you have to keep on pushing to try and put out the best dish possible.”
Despite this altercation, Pellegrini Petit – the last remaining woman contestant – survived another day, with fellow chef Dale Busuttil getting eliminated at the end of the show.
