‘Wee Taste Of Malta’: Homemade Haggis Pastizzi Launched In Edinburgh-Based Shop
A speciality grocery store in Scotland sells ravjul, mqaret, qassatat… and haggis pastizzi!
”They are family based, and they do the traditional pastizzi and even haggis ones. Worth a watch. I am not a family member; I just know them from my time living in Edinburgh and thought they truly deserve some recognition,” Angie Gauci, a big fan of the place, told Lovin Malta – probably while wiping some crumbs away from their mouth.
“They bring a piece of home to Scotland – with an original twist.”
Ta’ Karmni homemakes small batches of traditional Maltese treats, which include pastizzi, ravjul, qassatat, ħelwa tat-tork, pudina tan-nanna, mqaret, and qagħaq tal-għasel.
Apart from the traditional pizelli and ricotta pastizzi, the place also makes haggis versions. Pastizzi stuffed to the crackling brim with haggis… mind-boggling!
Haggis is the national Scottish dish – a pudding made with the liver, heart, and lungs of a sheep – or other animals – minced and mixed with beef or mutton suet and oatmeal, seasoned with onion, cayenne pepper, and other spices.
Maltese food enthusiasts living in Edinburgh can place orders for collection or delivery.
