Shadow Minister for Gozo Alex Borg has criticised what he describes at the “Legacy of a Labour Government for Gozo”.

Borg highlighted a series of issues that, in his view are of a mismanagement and neglect of Gozo’s needs by the current administration.Borg pointed to the government’s rental of an “expired” ship at a staggering cost of around €14,000 per day.

He criticised the vessels inaccessibility and the dangerous steep ramp, which has led to multiple accidents, including a recent one. Borg continued to talk about the discrepancy in working conditions, noting that while the crew of the ship can take breaks, workers on three other vessels are required to work 12 hour shifts without rest.

Moreover, Borg drew attention to the unresolved issue of workers employed by a contractor who are still owed thousands of euros in unpaid overtime from previous years. He further criticised thousands of euros annually, despite the premises remaining unused. The premises refer to a shop that was intended to become the Gozo Channel offices.

Despite this intention, the shop remains unused, yet it continues to incur costs, with tens of thousands of euros being paid annually in rent or other related expenses.

In his remarks, Borg painted a picture of a government that has failed to address the pressing concerns of Gozitans, leaving behind a legacy of waste and inefficiency.
