Nationalist MP Alex Borg tried his hands at a traditional Gozitan folk musical instrument while visiting the Nadur Carnival over the weekend.

Borg tried his hands at the martell and told Lovin Malta that it was his first time playing it, although judging from a video he published on Instagram his style is not bad at all.

In the lead-up to Carnival, Borg visited localities in the final steps of their preparation, and said he was glad to see “talented local people an volunteers work to continue to pushing Gozitan culture forwards.”

“I can’t express my thanks enough to the hundreds of volunteers who give their time for all of this to be a success, to the directorate of Culture in Gozo, all of the councils, the Police, Gozo Channel, Hospital workers, the Civil Protection Core, and everyone who was involved in organising the events,” he said.

The 2023 Nadur Carnival, the first to go ahead without a hitch after three years of COVID-19-related complications attracted hundreds of costumed visitors and was a resounding success.

Borg has often been touted as potential future PN leader and was recently endorsed for the role by political pundit Robert Musumeci.
