Birkirkara Council Urges Fix For Collapsed Aqueduct Ahead of School Traffic

The Birkirkara Local Council issued a statement informing of a traffic accident that damaged the historic aqueduct in Mrieħel some weeks ago that could cause heavier traffic in the area.
Birkirkara Local Council has called on the authorities to urgently repair a collapsed section of the historic aqueduct in the locality, warning that delays risk worsening traffic congestion just as the new scholastic year begins.
“We would like to remind the public that this aqueduct is part of our country’s historical and cultural heritage, and is protected under the Cultural Heritage laws. Therefore, primary responsibility for this site lies with the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, which immediately took the necessary action and appointed an architect to carry out the evaluation and technical report on the damage caused,” wrote the Birkirkara Local Council.
The statement went on to say that the repair works will be carried out by the relevant authorities and that the Birkirkara Local Council is continuously putting pressure to ensure that these works are done as soon as possible.
This pressure comes due to traffic concerns, especially since the scholastic year is about to begin.
