7 Really Last Minute Secret Santa Gift Ideas

It’s inevitable, you’ve been coerced into taking part in your office’s or your friend group’s Secret Santa. There’s a good chance you don’t even know the person you’re giving the gift to that well and staying within budget is usually a nightmare.

Naturally, you put it off until roughly six hours before the gift exchange takes place. You panic because you’ve not planned out what you’re going to give as a gift.

It’s come down to the eleventh hour, you look around your home, hoping to get some sort of inspiration for a gift. Alas, if you fail to come up with any ideas, these suggestions might help;

1. Socks: I never said these were going to be great gifts, but as an adult, socks and other essential clothing almost always come in handy. If you want to embrace the Christmas spirit, you could also gift a pair of socks with a festive design.

2. Bottle of wine: Always a safe bet unless your Secret Santa is a teetotaller. Chances are you probably have an unopened bottle of wine running around at home somewhere too, so minimum effort is required.

3. Thrifted Clothes: This option’s a little out of left field but could be worth considering. As the years go by, there’s a good chance you could end up with some clothes that you rarely wear or that stop fitting you.

For the right person, a second-hand hoodie or sweater which is still in good condition might be the bottom-of-the-barrel solution you’re looking for. If you don’t have any items on hand, you can always find something online.

N.B. Ideally, you don’t give any old, used, raggedy underwear with holes and/or skid marks on them.

4. Jar with little goodies and personalised notes: The wholesome option. Just get a jar or semi-large container and fill it up with sweets and chocolate, who doesn’t love chocolate?

As an extra personal touch, add a little handwritten note addressed to the person.

5. Gift Card: The quickest and most convenient option. This is what you get for someone you don’t know very well so a gift card will make the perfect gift so that the person can choose what they want to buy.

6. Book: A regular feature in Secret Santas. The only thing that needs to be considered here is the person to whom you’re giving the gift.

And if they don’t read the book, it might still make a good decoration on a coffee table or bookshelf.

7. Perfume or Jewellery: Another solid, regular feature in Secret Santas. Could be a good idea, especially for women.

There’s no guarantee your gift will even be used but at least it’s better than coming empty-handed or just giving out money as a gift.
