In a hilarious twist of fate, Maltese environmental activist and ranger Cami Appelgren found herself unwittingly at the centre of a social media frenzy after her segment about rangers ate into the time scheduled for Love Island Malta by 15 minutes.
“Me sitting in the middle of nowhere doing environmental crime monitoring, pitch dark, windy AF, and getting spammed with messages showing my face,” Cami said reacting.
“Thank you TVM for airing the Il-Mara feature about the environment and me being a ranger just before Love Island Malta, reaching the unreachables,” she continued.
The feature was intended to inform viewers about the environment and the work that she and her team do, but the timing of the broadcast had unintended consequences.
As viewers tuned in to watch Love Island Malta at 10pm, they found themselves watching a totally different show.
And this isn’t the first time a delay led to tens of thousands of people unintentially watching something else – earlier this week, many took to social media to air out their thoughts of watching discussion show Xtra when they were just looking for some hot drama.
As the feature continued, memes started to flood social media platforms, with viewers humorously questioning if the ranger would be Love Island’s next contestant.

But Cami took it in her stride, saying: “now everyone knows that if they don’t treat nature well, I’ll be there. Behave!”
Despite the flurry of jokes, memes, and comments online, her message resonated deeply with many viewers, providing an unexpected platform to discuss the importance of environmental conservation.
She even encouraged viewers to follow the Malta Ranger Unit on social media, using her newfound fame to promote her cause.
