European Parliament President Roberta Metsola Opens G7 Speakers’ Summit In Verona

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola officially opened the G7 Speakers’ Summit in Verona, addressing key global leaders, including the Speakers of G7 countries and Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada.
During her address at the inaugural session, President Metsola underscored the importance of unity in tackling today’s global challenges.
“That is why I emphasise that the challenges we face demand not just our individual determination, but our unity against those who seek to chip away at the rules-based international order and everything we worked so hard to achieve,” Metsola said.

Representing the European Parliament, the Maltese MEP highlighted the need for parliamentary actions to always prioritise the interests of the people.
She also touched on the global impact of fresh tensions and armed conflicts, noting their effect on supply chains and strategic goods. Metsola further warned of the risks posed by artificial intelligence if left unregulated.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Metsola held discussions with key figures, including Ukrainian Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, Italian Chamber President Lorenzo Fontana, US Speaker Mike Johnson, and Canadian Speaker Greg Fergus, among others.
