‘I Kept Saying It’s A Bad Place’: Maltese Photojournalist Shares Shocking Before And After Photos Of His Bedroom In Ukraine
Maltese photojournalist Rene Rossignaud has shared shocking before and after photos from the bedroom he was staying at while documenting the war in Ukraine. And the two photos were only taken hours apart.
“When I was there, I kept telling them this is a bad place, and I was hearing the Russian drones above us,” Rossignaud told Lovin Malta. “They said I was dreaming, or because they are used to the sound. I even did a video saying I’m not comfortable here, because I could hear the Russian drones above me.”
Rossignaud was staying at one of Malta-based NGO MOAS’ bases in Ukraine, and shared the two photos over the weekend, after news emerged of the building being decimated during a Russian airstrike. “Thank God no one was killed in this attack, and I can count my lucky stars I had just left,” he said, revealing that the attack happened just one night after he had left the premises. “The moment I landed in Malta, I was told that, the night before, the facility was bombed.”

The prominent photojournalist is no stranger to dangerous assignments, having covered eight different wars throughout his life. But this latest trip seems to have taken quite a toll on him.
“It’s hard to explain my thoughts and what I’ve seen,” he wrote last week, sharing a photo with a statue of the Holy Mary in Kyiv as he was making his way out of the war-torn country. “I feel numb, I feel angry, I’ve cried with fear and I’ve cried for people I don’t know.”
