Malta Strengthens Ties With Rwanda As Strategic Partner In The Heart Of Africa
The Maltese Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, recently met with Rwandan Minister for Foreign Affairs Vincent Biruta in Kigali to further strengthen bilateral relations between Malta and Rwanda.
Minister Borg expressed his desire for Rwanda to become a strategic partner for Malta in Africa.
During the meeting, three significant agreements were signed, aiming to improve and solidify the relationship between the two nations.
The agreements included an Air Services Agreement, a pact on cooperation for training diplomats, and another focusing on the tourism sector.
Minister Borg emphasized the Maltese government’s commitment to broadening its strategy for the African continent, with the ultimate goal of encouraging more local businesses to expand into Africa.
He argued that Malta must continue to serve as a bridge between Europe and Africa.
The discussion also covered possible cooperation in the educational sector and potential collaboration in multilateral forums.
In addition to his meeting with Minister Biruta, Minister Borg met with Clare Akamanzi, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board. The two discussed investment opportunities between Malta and Rwanda, as well as Rwanda’s Vision 2050 plan.
Minister Borg and Akamanzi also explored the advantages of Rwanda seeking opportunities in Malta, particularly regarding connectivity and logistics.
Furthermore, Borg met with the European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Belen Calvo Uyarra, discussing the Union’s relationship with Rwanda and Malta’s intention to strengthen its ties with the African nation.
