Submissions For 2024 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize Will Close On 31st July
The call for submission for the fourth edition of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism will close at the end of the month, giving journalists the last chance of this year to win €20,000 for their work that promotes or defends the core values of the EU.
The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism is an annual prize that gives a platform to journalistic work that promotes or defends the core values of the EU, such as democracy, rule of law and human rights.
To submit an application, you have to be a journalist or a team of journalists with an EU-based piece of work, be it video or written, aimed at safeguarding or furthering values like democracy, rule of law, and human rights. The submissions will close on 31st July.
“Journalists must be free to do their work. That is non-negotiable. Each year the European Parliament renews its commitment to uphold media and press freedom, in tribute to the fearless journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Daphne was assassinated, but her spirit endures in the work of journalists who, just like her, champion truth, pluralism and justice. This prize belongs to them,” European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said about this prize.
The prize was inspired by the tragic assassination of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. In fact, the award ceremony takes place annually in Strasbourg on 16th October – the date of her death.
An independent jury made up of press and civilians from all across the union will decide the winner.
Last year’s winner was a Greek, German and British consortium that investigated the Adriana shipwreck which left 600 migrants dead off Pylos in Greece.
Those who wish to submit their own piece can do so here.
