US Secretary Of State Says Malta Has Their ‘Full Support And Confidence’

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Malta has the “full support and confidence” of the United States of America.

Blinken gave Malta its support as the small island state prepares to take on the 2024 chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

This is the first time that Malta will take on the OSCE’s rotating chairmanship since the world’s largest intergovernmental security organisation was set up in 1991.

Malta’s nomination came after Russia blocked NATO member Estonia from taking on the role. A Maltese chairmanship was viewed as acceptable to all sides.

Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg recently travelled to Skopje, North Macedonia, which is currently chairing the OSCE, where he met Blinken and other major foreign ministers, including the UK’s David Cameron.
