Malta is the land of honey, both literally and in terms of music.

This island has given birth to many amazing musicians, most of which sadly have become lost in time. It’s not because they’re not great, but because it turns out we’re really bad at documenting stuff.

Here are out top picks of forgotten Maltese songs we really need to bring back ASAP.

1. Someone So Fine

The Lost Sound

This is one of those cool Sunday morning drive songs. It’s reminiscent of The Monkees and The Kinks to a certain extent.

The perfect choice for an easy listening Sunday drive with your dad, Someones So Fine is such a pretty song.

2. Tfajla

Misty

Let’s all just take a moment and appreciate how cool this song sounds.

We don’t really know much about Misty, but we certainly do know that we would love to build a time machine just to watch them perform live back in the 80s.

3. L-Imħabba Tagħna

Life

It’s no secret that Life are my ultimate Maltese band crush.

They’re just the happiest sounding ball of energy this island has ever seen. They’ve got ace lyrics, super sick sound and the chirpiest feel ever. This band and their upbeat tunes will give you the ultimate joyous experience, trust us.

Let’s bring these guys back, please.

4. Filgħodu Kmieni

The X-Bones & L-Qoton

This.

Filgħodu Kmieni was released way back in ’76 and was covered by other bands through time on numerous occasions.

But it’s the original version that’s our favourite to be honest.

5. Baby, Where Are You Tonight

New Cuorey

New Cuorey cannot really be classified as forgotten, but we will include this slightly less-known hit because we cannot get enough of it.

They have a thing for local psychedelic funk and infectiously catchy tunes. Love it. Why is this song so addictive?

6. Int u Jien

Joe and The Boys

This is the ultimate Maltese slow-dancing anthem. Can we vote for this one to be Malta’s most romantic song ever? Is there a national competition for most romantic songs of all time?

It speaks volumes and it’s literally tugging at our heartstrings. Bless.

7. I Can Feel

X-Tend

We’re really into this super cool electro-pop tune. Where have these beautiful souls been?

Look at the crazy amount of energy these guys have. We love them, daqshekk.

They’re great dancers, they’re impressively good at making music, and that guy is riding a horse on a beach. We’re done.

Oh, and they were crowner overall winners at the Passaporto per Sanremo in 1984 with this song. Obviously. X-Tend, you’re the overall winners of our hearts from now on.

8. Boys of Tomorrow

X-Tend

Uwejja this is too much.

As soon as we heard I Can Feel, it’s like something in our heart told us that these guys will have way more entries on this list than anyone else.

We were right.

These guys are seriously the best thing we’ve heard in days. We just cannot get over how cool they are, we’re totally fangirling like we’re 13 over here.

9. Midnight Sun

X-Tend

Sorry, these guys are our new band crush. Is there anyway we can bring them back? We cannot get over that slick synth sound.

This is a masterpiece.

We’re also super into their videos, just saying.

10. Call of the Wild

The Ophidian Twin

Can these guys look and sound any cooler? Look at how beautiful those hairstyles are.

We’ve been gushing over these guys in secret for quite some time, and for a good reason. The vocals are just so hauntingly pretty it’s like Bauhaus and The Cure gave birth to their lovechild in the Grand Harbour. Beautiful.

11. New Generation

Atlam

Another cool psychedelic sound straight out of our islands. Atlam later on changed their name to V-Gile, so please look for them under that name too.

This has a Rolling Stones feel we rarely hear coming out of Malta. The song gives off a feel of unrest and unease, and it’s easy to understand why. It was released in the 80’s, amidst political and social unease on the island.
