6 Struggles All Maltese Women Face In The Summer Time

Being a woman is hard. Fact. Being a woman in Malta’s summer is harder. Also a fact. And in case you were just about to shout at me for being over dramatic, here are six reasons why.
1. Boob sweat
Look, boobs can be inconvenient and uncomfortable at the best of times. Add unnecessarily high temperatures and pools of sweat forming between your cleavage and at the bottom of your bra, and you can consider yourself really and truly uncomfortable. Not to mention that awkward under-boob sweat-patch that appears two seconds after you wear any clothing item that isn’t black.
2. Make-up sweat
This one is also dedicated to all the Maltese beauty boys out there. Want to wear foundation? Go for it, but be prepared to feel it literally melt off your face the second you step outside. And you better hope your eyeliner and mascara are not only water-proof, but sweat-proof too.
3. Hair sweat
We all long for those beautiful “I’m Mediterranean and spend every day by the sea” beach curls, but long hair seems to be mutually exclusive with the arrival of sweat around the entire circumference of your head. Also, addio literally any kind of hair styling because you know it’s either going to end up as one big frizzy mess, or pulled back within two seconds of being outside.
4. Shaving
There is literally no need to expand on this one. But I’m going to anyway. There’s the fact that we feel socially pressured to be hairless, when growing body hair is totally natural. And literally the moment you shave it starts growing back, so it’s never ending. You need to plan your shaving days around your beach days – because salt water and razor burn aren’t very good friends. And also, it’s just very tiring.
5. Periods
A struggle that we face once a month, regardless of the season tbh. But periods in the summer? No thank you. Beach days are out of the question. You’re never sure if you’re leaking or sweating. Cramps plus heat. The anxiety of wearing shorts and skirts. It’s all too much and we don’t want any of it.
6. It’s illegal to walk around in a bikini??
We’re still unsure as to if this is a myth or true law, but you know that if you walk around anywhere that isn’t a beach wearing a bikini you’re going to get all the looks. But it’s ok for guys to walk around in just their trunks??? Not nice. We’re not saying we want to live that bikini life all day erry’day… but it would be nice to be able to walk back to the car from the beach without having to chuck on something just to remain ‘modest’.
So yes, it’s pretty clear that being female in the Maltese heat sucks. And guys, if you think you have it worse – tell us why!
