It’s almost that time of the year again, when leaving your house for half a minute renders you physically spent for the day and in desperate need of another shower.

With summer fast approaching, we’re here to help with a small check list of ways you can mentally, physically, and socially prepare for the heat. Because God knows the Maltese summer is a bitch.

1. Brush up on your foreign language

Whether it’s Italian, French, Spanish or German, you know you’re going to be having at least one conversation with a foreigner that will confuse the both of you this summer. Smile and nod, it will be over soon.

2. Work on your tan

With summer still round the corner, now’s the perfect time.

Try waste some time on your roof, balcony or anywhere around the house with some sun. It’s never too early to get your tan on and look golden for July.

3. Know your beach

Get out your compass, wind vane and look to the weathercock (seriously that’s what they’re called). Being able to locate the perfect beach while taking into consideration sea currents and wind projector is fast becoming a national art. Get good or stay home.

Or, you know, just use WhichBeach.

4. Shop

Shop till you drop. Now is your chance; hop on Asos or wherever you go to order online, and get your summer clothes before everyone else does (and you all end up looking the same anyway)

Flip flops, tops, bikinis, shorts, shirts and sun glasses… letss go.

5. Stock up on sun block

You know you’re going to need it.

With the yearly struggle not to get burnt and end up looking like a lobster, it clearly makes sense to think about stocking up on the product from now. On a more serious note, it’s important to remember how harmful the sun’s rays can be.

Tune in to your local station at literally any time during summer to be reminded, and be sure to not get burnt this year round.

6. Hit the gym

Hit it. Summers’s fast approaching, but we’ve still got a few months to get our bodies up to our standards.

If we want to fit into those tight clothing items, we’re going to have to work at it. Smash those cardio machines, drop set those dumbbells, and bench your tits off. There’s still time, there’s always time. JUST DO IT.
