Friday 6th April

The much-awaited return of TEDx in Malta

TEDx UniversityofMalta is back for its third annual conference, and it’s promising to be another solid one. This year’s topic is the elusive Shift which societies are currently going at an alarming rate, and with the five speakers that have been announced for this year, it’s set to be one for the books.

The beginning of a grand, nine-day classical music extravaganza

This year’s edition of the International Spring Orchestra Festival has a lineup like no other. Veteran Basque pianist Joaquín Achúcarro, Mariinsky and St. Petersburg Opera singers Yuri Vlasov and Larisa Pominova, and conductor Brian Schembri will each be delivering magical performances throughout the festival, but they’re just the awesome tip of the iceberg.

Everything kicks off tonight at the recently-refurbished Manoel Theatre, as grand a stage as the artists could hope for. The opening concert will see an incredible matching of European Union Chamber Orchestra, soprano Larisa Pominova, bass Yuri Vlasov and conductor Schembri, all bringing to life Shostakovich’s 14th Symphony.

A day dedicated to electronic music technology and audiophiles

Spazju Kreattiv will once again be hosting Circuits this year, one long day of discussions, performances, presentations, installations and interactive workshops aimed at exchanging ideas at the cutting edge of music, technology and creative practice.

This time round, Electronic Music Malta’s (EMM) voluntary efforts are being supported by Valletta 2018, and the music conference’s third edition will feature everything from workshops to modular synthesizer performances.

There will also be a very special display of an analogue modular synthesiser which was built from the ground up by a Maltese electronic enthusiast.

A six-act extravaganza of local and foreign acts bringing their darkest A-game to the ever-popular The Garage in Żebbuġ, the rock scene’s latest haunt.

Come one, come all, and get ready for a long and heavy one.

A celebration of Maltese music throughout the years

In the run-up to the three-day Rock The South Malta Festival which will be gracing our island next weekend, this weekend’s warmup will come in the form of a night dedicated to the tiny island with a lot of music to offer.

“We are going to party in style with some of the best, worst, and in-between of Maltese music,” the organisers explained on the official Facebook event page, and judging by the last couple of decades in Malta, they’ve got a lot to choose from.
