9 Maltese Christmas Markets To Help Get You In The Holiday Spirit

As November continues to roll out and Christmas gets ever closer, a number of markets will be opening around the island to make sure Malta really gets in the holiday spirit this year. 

Whether it’s comfort food or some artisan items, there’s something for everyone, and there’s nearly something happening every single day up to the big 25th.

While places like the Valletta Waterfront might have month-long festivities, others are more limited and easier to miss. Here are nine Maltese Christmas market going down in Malta this year.

25th – 26th November: Organic Xmas Market

If your favourite part about Christmas is the food, then you’re in for a treat this weekend. Vincent’s Eco-Farm in Mġarr will be doing what they do best; serving up organic mulled wine, raw desserts, toasted chestnuts, homemade cakes, and all the healthy vegetarian and vegan food you could ever hope for!

26th November: San Anton’s Christmas Market

San Anton School’s annual Christmas market is always one of the season’s firsts, and it’s got a little bit of everything. 

Traditional decorations, home accessories, poinsettia and holly plants, toys, festive jewellery, storytelling activities, a Christmas cookie workshop… oh, and a performance by the cast of this year’s MADC Christmas Panto.

1st – 3rd December: Lola’s Christmas Market

Ħal Balzan’s Villa Madama next door to will be hosting this three-day market on the first weekend of December, and it’s all set to be a quaint and cosy one.

Stalls will sell anything from real Christmas trees to whiskeys and cigars. A number of prizes will also be given away as part of Lola’s raffles.

2nd – 3rd December: GARC’s Christmas Village

The Guardian Angel Secondary Education Resource Centre in Ħamrun is organising a free fund-raising event which will see their school being transformed into a Christmas village for the day. 

Home and hand-made accessories, books, gourmet foods and children’s gifts will all be up for sale, along with a kitchen area serving up mulled wine, mince piece and qagħaq tal-għasel.

3rd December: The North District Family Christmas Fun

Organised by the North District Girl Guides, this event will see pony rides and a show by the Police Dog Section added to the usual Christmas market magic. Oh, and let’s not forget that homemade mulled wine and roasted chestnuts!

The Sunday event will be held on the premises of the North District Girl Guides itself, in front of Pembroke’s church.

7th – 12th December: Natalis Notabilis

This event has slowly become one of the most popular festive ones on the island, and is definitely the largest one in Malta.

This six-day event transforms Rabat’s historic core into a Christmas Wonderland, with around 80 stalls selling anything your holiday heart desires. This year’s Natalis Notabilis also sees some Christmas events being organised throughout the week, such as the Nativity Trail, the theatrical performance ‘Screwged’, and a special Gospel Choir Concert on the 9th.

9th December: Designer & Artisan Christmas Market

Sliema’s Souvenirs That Don’t Suck is hosting their own take of a Christmas market, and with a name like that, you just know it’s going to be good. 

Gathering some of the Malta’s coolest and best artisans and designers into one spot, this has unmissable written all over it.

10th December: Jollywood Winter Fair

Mosta’s QSI International School wants to bring something new to the area with a  vibrant winter fair and Christmas market. 

If their poster is anything to go by, they’ll be focusing on some cool homemade items for the day, and if you’re interested in joining as a vendor, contact them ASAP.

Live music and entertainment will also be dotting the fair!

16th – 17th December: The Elves’ Christmas Factory

Special attractions at Dingli’s Centre for Arts and Culture will be happening from the 15th to the 19th of December, but the couple of days in between are when the Christmas Market will be open.

The first day of this market will also witness a local record being broken of the largest filled Christmas stocking, with everything inside being donated to children in hospitals, care homes and other charities.
