Renowned writer and biographer Andrew Morton will be visiting Malta in April as he lays the groundwork for his latest book, which will focus on the life of the British monarch. He is most well known for his work on Princess Diana’s official biography Diana: Her True Story, biographical work for Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as ‘controversial White House intern’ Monica Lewinsky.
He will be staying in Malta for the month of April, and wants to meet “all those on the island with pictures, videos and memories of the time HRH Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived in Malta,” he said. “I would love to meet anyone who can help paint a picture of that time.”
Queen Elizabeth, at the time still a princess, lived in Malta for months at a time while Prince Philip was serving as a Royal Navy officer between 1949 and 1951
And during this time, they lived in a large villa or townhouse in Pieta known as Villa Gwardamanġa.
Andrew Morton is keen to gain insight into what the Queen has called ‘the happiest time of her life’. The royal family has always been regarded with great affection by the Maltese people and Mr Morton is hoping to speak to anyone who has personal or family memories of that period that can help shed light on their stay in Malta.
