Eurovision veteran and part-time ghostbuster Amber Bondin is making waves across local online newsfeeds once again. This time, the singer takes on Maltese Christmas classic ‘Ninni La Tibkix Iżjed‘ and the result is absolutely magical.

Amber herself describes her excitement over covering the song in a promotional post on Facebook earlier last week. “[This song] takes me to a very special place and […] brings so many beautiful childhood memories.”

The singer added that the song harks back to her time in Kenya, where she worked as part of a missionary project with the Mzungu Mission

I will never forget the smiles they wore, they were so full of happiness, peace and so serene. I keep wondering what will become of them, or whether I’ll ever get to see them again should I return.

“When singing this song, I automatically think of all the children who, like Jesus, where born in poverty and have to live day to day, as the only certainty they know is living in the moment. ‘Ninni La Tibkix Iżjed‘ reminds me of the time I spent in Africa, when I witnessed poverty first-hand. These children have so much to teach us […] I will never forget the smiles they wore, they were so full of happiness, peace and so serene. I keep wondering what will become of them, or whether I’ll ever get to see them again should I return.”

Amber recounted a particular story that she could never forget.

“We were walking through an extremely poor village and a young mother came running towards me with her baby cuddled in her arms. And with tearful eyes, she started begging me to take her baby. ‘Please take it,’ she yelled. We were so overwhelmed and tried to calm her down to understand what was happening. We learnt that she did not have enough food and water to keep her baby alive, so she wanted me to take the baby and give her a better life. She was ready to give up her own child to save her.”

Amber’s cover of ‘Ninni La Tibkix Iżjed‘ is now available on Spotify and iTunes.
