First-Ever Festa Tonn Coming To Marsaskala This June

Get ready for a brand-new summer event in Marsaskala — Festa Tonn, launching on Saturday 7th June, is set to celebrate Malta’s fishing traditions, especially our world-famous tuna industry.
The festival was officially announced by Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, who described it as a chance for the public to enjoy great food, learn more about our local fisheries, and connect with Malta’s maritime heritage.
Expect a full day of fun, from live music and a fishing competition to food stalls, educational stands and a dedicated kids’ area.
“This isn’t just about enjoying fresh local fish,” Bugeja Said said. “It’s about appreciating the hard work of our fishers and the beauty of everything connected to our sea and culture.”
The Marsaskala Local Council is teaming up with the Parliamentary Secretariat to bring the event to life. Mayor Mario Calleja said local businesses will also be pitching in with a range of entertainment planned — including traditional Maltese crafts, voluntary groups and festive decorations.
Marsaskala, once a buzzing fishing village, still has many full-time and part-time fishers, and recent improvements like new equipment for local fishermen show that support is growing.
The event is part of a wider effort by the Ministry for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights to shine a light on Malta’s fishing communities — and this new festival promises to do just that.
