A historic moment for Maltese polo is about to go down in Marsa in less than 24 hours, with the first all-women’s polo match to be played for the historic Du Cane Cup.

Played at 11am at the Malta Polo Club, the match will see eight mounted players vying for their chance to be added to a coveted cup which has been kept under lock and key in a bank vault since 1947.

A first for Malta and for what’s considered one of the oldest polo clubs in Europe, the match will see the Veuve Clicquot Team and Gauchas Team (sponsored by Finestral) going head-to-head in the four-quartered match (with seven minutes allocated to each quarter).

Spectators are invited to watch the match from the Malta Polo Club clubhouse (formerly Chukkas restaurant). Entry is free of charge, and live commentary will be delivered from the clubhouse.

“Malta is an integral part of the history and development of the game of polo in Europe,” president Matthew Borg said of the cub’s history, and its history-making match tomorrow. “In fact, it is a great privilege for the club to hold a number of prestigious historic cups, and seeing the Du Cane Cup competed over by two all-women’s teams for the first time ever is very exciting for us as a club.”

Send this to someone who’d love to check out this match with you tomorrow!
