Malta’s New Schools Are Getting An Update Which Hundreds Have Been Asking For

Ahead of an approaching new scholastic year, some parents and teachers have been voicing their concerns on issues regarding Maltese schools.

One such post which appeared earlier this month on the popular Facebook forum The Salott gained a lot of traction; over 630 reactions, to be precise.

“Don’t you think that government schools nowadays must be air conditioned?” the post started. The Facebook user, whose son attends a government school, went on to explain how the old ceiling fans which are so reminiscent of schools around the island are no adequate condition for the “poor teachers and kids having to work and learn”.

Considering Maltese winters take a while to properly kick off and are relatively mild at their worst, heat in classrooms is definitely an issue towards both the beginning and the end of the scholastic year. “You get for what you pay and government schools are for free, but I believe that working and learning in a healthier more comfortable environment would make them feel much better,” the mother said.

The post goes on to mention the need to introduce a fridge for at least every Year at all government schools, “as they are always promoting healthy living.”

“I’m sure that the majority of us work in a room temperature environment with an AC and fridges… Kids should be treated the same way. What do you think?”

The original Facebook post gained a lot of traction over the last couple of week, with hundreds of people agreeing with the mother and resharing her post. Soon enough, the issue gradually made its way to Minister for Education Evarist Bartolo.

Newsbook.com.mt reported how, when asked for a reaction to the popular Facebook post, the Minister confirmed that the classrooms of all future-built government schools will have ACs.
