The Cardiology Department at Mater Dei was recognised for the iVAC 2L technology by PulseCath, a global leader in cardiovascular technology.

This recognition is a testament to the Cardiology Department’s commitment to advancing medical innovation and improving patient care. This intervention provides support to the heart during other procedures on cardiac valves or arteries.

PulseCath recognised the achievements in performing many complex procedures by the Cardiology Department.

They stated that the department’s expertise, innovation, and commitment to advancing medical technology not only enhanced the department’s reputation but also significantly contributed to advancing patient care.

The Diabetes Department, within the Department of Internal Medicine, was also recognised by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), providing comprehensive services and multidisciplinary education, with a team of healthcare professionals working together to provide coordinated care and education.

The Diabetes Centre at Mater Dei has conducted important research on diabetes, which not only strengthened knowledge about the local diabetes situation but also contributed to advancing what is known about diabetes management.

This recognition was achieved thanks to the high standards and selection criteria set by the IDF, and to date, there are only 22 other such recognised centres globally.

The IDF said it looks forward to welcoming the Diabetes Center at Mater Dei as a member of the global network of IDF Centers, to continue building capacity to provide quality diabetes care and education in their respective regions.

During a visit to the Diabetes and Cardiology Departments at Mater Dei Hospital, Minister Jo Etienne Abela thanked the professionals for their work and wished them and other departments to continue providing excellent care.

“We are proud of the advances being made in these fields and sure that these recognitions will translate into much good for the people of Gozo and Malta,” Minister Abela concluded.
