One of the most popular musicals in the world is headed to Malta: Queen’s We Will Rock You will be running at the MCC in 2019, and Maltese fans are already more than ready.

Following the highly successful runs of both My Fair Lady and Mamma Mia in 2018, FM Theatre Productions have announced they’ll be putting on another smash-hit musical for the 2019 season to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

Directed by Chris Gatt, We Will Rock You will feature Queen’s greatest hits including Radio Ga Ga, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, The Show Must Go On, Bohemian Rhapsody and of course, the title number We Will Rock You.

The show is described by one of the legendary rock band’s original members Brian May as ‘live, dangerous and more than anything else: it rocks!’

“We are thrilled to be the first company in Malta to have acquired the rights to this incredible show and we can’t wait to bring it to the stage,” producer Edward Mercieca said. “It is a show that always brings the house down and, following our sell-out runs of My Fair Lady and Mamma Mia, we have no doubt that We Will Rock You will be an absolutely hit too.”

We Will Rock You is based on songs from the timeless British rock band Queen and the book by Ben Elton

It is one of the longest-running musicals in West End history and has been produced in six of the world’s continents.

Providing a framework for the rock band’s classic songs, the show is set in a distant future where Earth’s name has been changed to Planet Mall, and everyone must dress, think and act the same. In a world where musical instruments are forbidden and rock music is practically unknown, a small group of Bohemians rebel against the system and struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion and, most of all, music.

Auditions for the debut Maltese production will open in January

Auditions for Maltese performers open early in 2019, and everyone is invited to try out. Organisers will be looking for people with a love of Queen, who can belt out the tracks with a powerful voice.
