The ‘Picasso Of Aquatic Gardening’ Is Coming To Malta To Teach You All He Knows

The Maltese Aquarist Society have a treat lined up for Maltese fans of aquatic gardening. Heiko Bleher, the “Picasso of Aquatic Gardening” and a world authority on aqua-scaping and aquariums is coming to Malta to teach local aquatic fans all about his tips and tricks.

“Mr Bleher is a German researcher who is known to most in the scientific community for his contribution to the exploration of fresh and brackish water habitats worldwide and the discovery of many species of fish and aquatic plants, several of which carry his name. Among the many species he discovered are the rainbow snakehead (Channa bleheri),” said Jerome Attard Flores who manages the Maltese Aquarist Society.

Having written a series of books on fish keeping as well as his other discoveries around the world, he will be giving a two hour speech on Saturday, 1st of September at the National Aquarium.

Besides Mr Bleher’s visit, they will also be organising the 45th Annual Show from Sunday 1st September

Expect around 190 aquarium exhibitions at this year’s annual show. You can see a variety of fish from five continents like guppies and tetras which grow to just three centimetres in size and pacu and tilapia which can grow up to 30cm.

The discus fish will also be on display, straight from the Amazon River in South America.

You can expect to see a series of fish with strange or particular characteristics

Get ready for the African Lake Cichlids that hold their baby fries in their mouths (mouthbrooders) and the river catfish in Asia which tend to swim upside down.

The show will be open from 1st September to the 9th September. It will be open during Saturdays and Sundays between 9.00 am to 9.00pm and during week days between 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm. You can find the event by following this link.
