Voting Closing Soon: These Are All The Inspiring People Up For A Lovin Malta Social Media Award This Month

Over 90 people have been announced as the final nominees for the first ever Lovin Malta Social Media Awards in 20 different categories. From Best Influencer to Best Music Video to Best Pet, the finalists were chosen based on your nominations, and you’ll be able to vote for the winners until Wednesday night.

In case you haven’t cast your votes yet and need some inspiration, here’s some more information on all the people up for our more ‘inspiring’ awards; Best Social Media Cause and Most Inspiring Person.

Best Social Media Cause

1. ALS Foundation / Dar Bjorn

Set up in November 2017 by ALS activist Bjorn Formosa, Dar Bjorn is a home for individuals diagnosed with ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

2. #WaveOfChange

In the Sumer of 2018 Neil Agius, Gilbert Bartolo and Richard Zerafa took on the challenge to swim around the entire coast of Malta (that’s roughly 70km!) in order to raise awareness about the problem surrounding marine pollution and littering.

3. The Marcy Foundation

The Marcy Foundation was set up by local tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens, to provide support for victims of domestic violence, drug abuse, child abuse, those fighting mental health issues, and those diagnosed with HIV.

4. Noah’s Ark Dog Sanctuary

A group of volunteers came together to show that mix breed, young and old shelter dogs can give you just as much love as store bought and purebred dogs. Volunteers can also visit Noah’s Ark to walk the dogs currently looking for homes.

5. Żibel

This Non-Governmental Organisation was set up by a group of people inspired to organise beach and outdoor clean-ups and raise awareness for the state of our environment. Żibel have also been fighting the battle against plastic and working on installing sea-bins in Malta.

Most Inspiring Person

1. Camilla Appelgren

Cami is known as Malta’s clean-up superhero, and recently announced that she will be campaigning in the MEP elections with the Partit Demokratiku.

2. Tamara Webb

Tamara rose to fame as she quickly became one of Malta’s top influencers, promoting the message of healthy living and self-love.

3. Neil Agius

Neil is one of the three people who took part in the #waveofchange swim. He was the main campaigner behind it and actually completed the swim around Malta in less than 24 hours.

4. Karly Naudi

Karly is known across the island as one of Malta’s very vocal LGBTQ+ activists, and is the first transgender model to walk the catwalk at Malta Fashion Week.

5. Jake Vella

Jake is one of the 75 people who has ROHHAD in the entire world; a condition that means no matter how much he exercises or diets, he keeps gaining weight. But this hasn’t stopped Jake from keeping active. He is a triathlon athlete and is an inspiration to people all over the world.
