Ever since 1986, Ernst & Young has annually honoured different entrepreneurs from all around the world, gathering in Monte Carlo to crown the Entrepreneur of the Year.

To give you a perspective of the scope of this award, past winners include the minds behind Dell Computers, Starbucks, Amazon, LinkedIn and Google. Of course, much has changed in the world in the three decades since the award’s conception, and the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award has come to incorporate a multitude of different awards spread over 165 cities in over 60 countries.

It really is the world’s biggest and most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs and the only one with a truly global dimension

What have I got to do to participate?

You’ve got until January 31st 2019 to send in your nomination form. It takes about 30 minutes to fill in, but can very well change the rest of your life.

In addition to the main award, ambitious young entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply for the EY Rising Star Award. This will be presented to a contender running a high-growth business that is generating excitement in the market.

You’ll then have to be selected for an interview where you’ll have the chance to tell your story. By March, you’ll have to deliver a presentation explaining more on yourself and your business.

The award ceremony will be on March 21st 2019, and will announce the winner of EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award, and the EY Rising Star Award.

The Maltese winner will be flown to Monaco later in 2019 to compete for the grand prize, the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year™ Award. This event brings together national winners from more than 50 countries, selected from a pool of more than 5,000 nominees. The winner of the Rising Star Award will also travel to the Monaco event, providing a unique opportunity to network with some of the world’s best entrepreneurs.

Can I participate?

To take part, the entrepreneur has got to be the owner of or hold a stake in a company and is responsible for the business growth over the past couple of years.

This entrepreneur can be anyone that is an active member of the company management for at least two consecutive years and has a key influence on decision making. And, of course, the business must be headquartered or have its core operations in Malta.

If you know someone with these credentials but they’re too humble to register themselves, you can also recommend a great entrepreneur. Anyone can do this, including employees, company advisors and financiers can nominate an entrepreneur, with the latter’s consent.

So do you know someone who deserves to be crowned Malta’s Entrepreneur of the Year? Tag them in the comments and let’s get our tiny island on the entrepreneurial map!
