Malta’s summer is known for many things, including crowded beaches, late-night barbecues, and frizzy hair, to name a few.

However, nothing embodies Malta more than our traditional festi.

These cultural gatherings combine village traditions and genuine passion, and are enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Since most are primarily organised on a voluntary basis, the Arts Council recognised the need to help fund and keep these traditions alive.

Thanks to the Artistic Financing Scheme for feast street decorations, 31 organisations have received funding. Totalling to a whopping €180,000.

“The aim was to invest in continuous fostering, strengthening and protection of our cultural traditions,” Minister for National Heritage Owen Bonnici said.

“Such schemes keep giving us the foundation to further solidify our culture and its future”.

This scheme ensures that these organisations get the assistance needed to continue furthering their work so that higher artistic levels are reached,” Director Funding and Strategy within the Arts Council Malta, Mary Ann Cauchi said.

“Such a scheme also enables us to see the full potential of our vibrant local ecology of cultural expressions, grounded in our communities, as stated in Strategy2025”.

Beneficiaries of this scheme are voluntary organisations and were scrutinised in terms of technical and artistic eligibility by Arts Council Malta.

The maximum funding per beneficiary was €10,000 per project; each project was awarded funding on a case-by-case basis.
