Premju għall-Arti is an initiative by the Maltese Arts Council that celebrates the notable achievements of Malta’s cultural and creative industries. Launched in 2017, its purpose is to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to culture and creativity throughout their careers.

During the launch of the sixth edition Minister Bonnici emphasised the importance of the award for the sector. He highlighted that Premju għall-Arti serves as an exceptional way to recognise local talents and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of the culture and creative sectors.

The aim is to continue enriching Malta’s cultural landscape and demonstrate a commitment to nurturing and promoting a thriving arts community where imagination and creativity can flourish.

Maria Angela Vassallo, the Head of Communications at Arts Council Malta and Project Manager for Premju għall-Arti, provided insights into the changes made for the sixth edition. The awards will now take place biennially, with an increase in competitive categories to 14 for the 2023 edition.

Five selected projects will be shortlisted as finalists. Additionally, three non-competitive honour categories will remain unchanged. The Ambassador for the Arts award will be open for adjudication in the subsequent edition, which is scheduled for 2025.

The nomination process for the awards involves an open call for nominations conducted online at www.premju.mt. The eligibility period for this edition spans from October 1, 2021, to August 31, 2023.

Nominations must be submitted by noon on Friday, September 22, 2023. The Premju għall-Arti team will then contact the nominees to gather more information on their nominated work through the submission of an application form.

In the sixth edition, nominations received for the Best Work for Young Audiences, Best Project in the Community, Best International Achievement, and Best Creative and Innovative Enterprise categories will undergo an additional stage of selection—Public Voting.

This stage will also take place on the www.premju.mt website at a later stage in the year, preceding the Awards Night. Each individual will be entitled to one vote based on their ID card number. The public voting will account for 25% of the final mark.
