A Golden Glimpse Into The Human Experience At Il-Kamra Ta’ Fuq

Maltese artist Fabio Borg is set to unveil his latest exhibition, Tactum Aureum – The Golden Touch, a visually striking and thought-provoking body of work exploring what truly matters in life.

Opening on 21st February at 7.30pm at il-Kamra ta’ Fuq, the exhibition will run until 9th March, curated by Melanie Erixon.

Drawing inspiration from the myth of King Midas, whose golden touch became both a gift and a curse, Borg’s work questions modern society’s obsession with wealth, power, and materialism.

Each piece in the collection features subtle hints of gold, symbolising how greed often lurks beneath the surface, only visible under the right light.

Borg’s signature chaotic, expressive lines, reminiscent of scribbles, evoke a sense of tension and urgency, reflecting the fast-paced nature of contemporary life.

Yet, these elements are balanced with soft pastel backgrounds, offering a sense of resilience and hope, a reminder that “it can’t rain forever.”

Through this visual language, Borg’s work serves as a self-portrait, marking his relationships, identity, and personal journey.

About the Artist

Born in Malta in 1974, but with Italian roots, Fabio Borg has been immersed in art from a young age. He studied at the Malta School of Art, mentored by Anthony Calleja, and later honed his skills in Italy, engaging with diverse artists who helped shape his artistic direction. His career was also influenced by Gabriel Caruana, who encouraged him to stage his first solo exhibition at The Mill in 1999.

Borg’s work has since been showcased both locally and internationally, including a solo exhibition at Galleria Vittoria on Via Margutta, Rome, in 2022, where he is represented in Italy. His recent shift toward abstract expressionism captures raw emotions and fleeting moments, making each piece a visceral reflection of modern existence.

Working from his studio, Borg primarily uses acrylics, a medium that aligns with his spontaneous, urgent artistic process. His work continues to push boundaries, offering audiences a deeply personal yet universally relatable experience.
