A new art exhibition by Darryl Schembri, Adrift in Life, or Whatever, is set to open at Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana offering a deeply personal and thought-provoking exploration of struggle, resilience, and the contrasts that shape human experience.

Schembri’s debut exhibition, from 6th to 26th March, brings together abstract compositions and intricate detailing, blending his background in tattoo artistry with expressive, textured paintings.

His work features balanced stones, fraying ropes, and floating shapes, evoking a sense of tension, fragility, and uncertainty.

Through this interplay of light and heavy, decay and beauty, aspiration and limitation, the collection invites viewers to reflect on their own challenges and find hope amidst adversity.

Curated by Melanie Erixon, the exhibition showcases Schembri’s evolution as an artist, marking a shift from his meticulous tattoo work into a more experimental, emotionally driven approach.

“Art became a refuge,” Schembri reflects, describing how personal hardships pushed him toward painting as a form of mental recovery.

His dedication to pushing artistic boundaries is evident in his use of contrasting textures—gloss vs. matte, smooth vs. rough—and his growing interest in extending artwork into the surrounding space.

With this body of work, Schembri invites audiences to step into a world of tension, balance, and transformation, where the visual contrasts reflect the struggles and resilience of everyday life.
