Ex Prime Minister and author Alfred Sant has written a theatrical cabaret, and it’ll run from the 11th to the 16th of July at Pjazza Teatru Rjal. Balzunetta Towers will tell the story of ‘Strait Street’s naughtier sister’ and is geared up to be one hell of a show.

Directed by Sean Buhagiar, with music by Dominic Galea, the show will offer people the chance to sit in a cabaret-style space with free-flowing wine and nibbles. But if that wasn’t enough reason to convince you, here’s six more.

1. The history behind the show is extremely interesting

Many have never heard of Balzunetta Towers, let alone its history. The birthplace of jazz in Malta, was a naughtier Strada Stretta, which saw more soldiers and less sailors. They even had some gay stores thrown in the mix.

2. The cast is great

The performance will star the gorgeous Davide Tucci alongside big names like Doreen Galea, Chris Dingli and Justin Galea.

3. The music is an incredible original score

Composed by Dominic Galea, the music really brings the story of Balzunetta Towers to life, with a jazz twist that’ll make you feel like you’re right there with the actors.

4. The behind-the-scenes team is awesome

Directed by Sean Buhagiar, with set design by Seb Tanti Burlo and costumes by Adrian Mamo, the show’s backstage crew are ready to put on the show of a lifetime.

5. The satire is on point

Alfred Sant’s involvement may come as a surprise to some, but he is no stranger to writing, having penned several books over the years. With a subject that’s so topical, overlaid onto the birthplace of jazz and shenanigans, the outcome is sure to be entertaining.

6. It’s bridging harsh divides

A Floriana-based story brought to life in one of Valletta’s theatres is a pacifist’s project if we’ve ever heard of one before.
