Architecture All-Stars: Here Are Some Of The Most Impressive Finalists Of This Year’s Kamra Tal-Periti Awards

The Kamra tal-Periti is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the promulgation of the Architects’ Ordinance by hosting the second edition of Premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia tonight, an awards ceremony named after one of Malta most prolific and important architects in the nineteenth century.

The awards are intended to celebrate, encourage and promote the work of Malta’s built environment and feature some impressive structural engineering and designs.

Contestants first had to present their project in front of numerous panels of juries earlier this week, with categories ranging from Urban Regeneration to Interior Designs and even Dissertation Projects. Designers and engineers alike have an opportunity to showcase their work in front of a panel of experts, which is currently being held at the Phoenicia hotel and is also open for public viewing.

But we don’t need experts to tell us how amazing these pieces of architecture are…

The Urban Regeneration pits two stand-out projects against each other; the Valletta Ditch and the Tritan Square projects, two of the most notable rehabilitations of the decade, both featuring in the glorious capital city’s entrance

The ‘Interior Spaces’ category has some of the most visually appealing designs, including the 5-Star Luxury AX Privilege Hotel, with its stripped down architecture and soothing tactility.

Smaller businesses with just as extravagant and exquisite of interiors also feature in this category, like Archi+’s work at the 230Works co-working Cafe in Mosta and Valentino Architect’s Dean Gera salon at the Phoenicia.

Of course the category also has to include a dream home… which in this case is an introverted and minimalist building in Qormi with a strong metallic finish, courtesy of MMK Studio

The awards also include an ‘International Project’ category for those architects/engineers that have had their work featured in another country.

This included Mizzi Studio’s work in the UK, DAA Haus in Sicily and Chris Briffa Architects in Bahrain.

The awards also acknowledge Masters students who have notable dissertations or theses in Engineering or Architecture.

The full list of (very impressive) finalists for this year’s awards show can be checked out here.

The final awards will be announced during a Gala Dinner tonight, and an outdoor exhibition of the finalists’ projects will also be set up in Floriana and will be open to the public until the 2nd of August.
