ArtWorks: Inspiring Innovation And Careers In Malta’s Creative Sectors
A new campaign called ArtWorks has been launched to promote art education and accessible, equitable, and high-quality career opportunities.
The Minister for the Arts, Owen Bonnici, launched a new campaign called ArtWorks aimed at raising awareness of educational and career opportunities in the arts and creative sectors in Malta.
At the same time, this campaign aims to highlight artists and creative practitioners as well as to be a voice and advance their role in our educational system and the various careers one can pursue in the industry.
“The government has always insisted on the importance of cultural and creative industries when it comes to creating new and sustainable jobs. These jobs have lateral effects on other industries. Through this investment in this campaign, we will be advocating for the full potential of the arts when creatively combined with entrepreneurship and innovation,” said Minister Bonnici.
The ArtWorks campaign brings together several strategic areas targeted by the 2025 Strategy, including education and development, public investment, and diversity and communities, as well as creative entrepreneurship.
The campaign will prioritise giving a voice and advancing the role of the arts in our educational system while advocating for equitable access to opportunities for all communities and in educational practices. This campaign has a mix of digital and traditional advertising strategies, as well as events and educational awareness, thereby cultivating a deeper appreciation for the arts and fostering a more vibrant and inclusive arts community in Malta.
“The 2025 Strategy was designed to open up new opportunities through facilitating stronger collaborations between educational institutions and cultural organisations and practitioners as a key starting point. The Malta Arts Council has already made significant advances in this implementation, with Malta’s creative and arts industry experiencing significant growth in recent years, leading to an increase in employment opportunities.” The Director of Funds and Strategy at the Malta Arts Council, Mary Ann Cauchi, said.
“However,” Cauchi noted, “there are still gaps in education related to the various careers one can pursue in this sector. ArtWorks addresses these existing educational and infrastructural gaps in the arts sector and advocates for the development of supportive policies and infrastructure. Through testimonials taken from the lives of both local and international professionals occupying various creative roles, the campaign seeks to encourage individuals to explore and pursue a career in the arts.”
ArtWorks further strengthens the journey towards the implementation of the 2025 Strategy by playing the role of a provider and facilitator of solutions while enhancing the learning experience and the act of learning itself among all ages, thus supporting the efforts of the Malta Arts Council to educate and inspire the public.
