Bold Art Meets Excellent Craftsmanship In New Collab Between Maltese Pop Artist Miloman And Dutch Hat Designer Plaum
A chance encounter in a Rabat coffee shop led to a new collaboration being struck between Maltese artist Miloman and Dutch artist Plaum.
The two creatives were inspired by their shared passion for pushing the boundaries of their art and craft, with Miloman telling Lovin Malta he’s been trying to break out from traditional mediums and sees this new project as a golden opportunity.
Miloman was conceived in 2020 during the listless pandemic days. The artist decided to take his doodling to the next level with his, sadly deceased, dog Milo. He created a number of canvases, prints and even clothing items.

It is now time to take on a new medium: hand-crafted hats.
Each piece in the collection combines Miloman’s bold pop art style with Plaum’s expertise in hat design.
“These hats are one-of-a-kind. The elegance of true craftsmanship by Plaum integrated with Miloman’s palette will bring much joy to the collectors of these unique works.”
“Plus, these hats will serve as a lifetime VIP pass for any future Miloman upcoming ticketed events. Each hat will also come with an NFT, which will be used as a certificate of authenticity.”
In February, Miloman is set to visit Plaum in Den Bosch in the Netherlands to continue their collaboration.
Dutch artist Milner Eline Plaum-Wolthuis, known for her unique approach to hat design, was excited to work with Miloman and said:
“Collaborating with Miloman has allowed me to push the boundaries of traditional hat-making techniques and create something truly special.”
“I grew up up in an environment of skating, graffiti, manga and dance music.” Miloman said. “I love bright colours. Coming from a background of curating art I appreciate deep art as well. Any art as long as it moves me. But I prefer to create art that gives happiness, joy.”
Inspired by his companion Milo, Miloman is this ambiguous character that wears a dog on his head, man’s best friend. The palette is bright, primal colours.
Asked if there was a parallel to Warhol’s hyperreality, the artist asserted that he feels a stronger kinship to Marcel Duchamp’s Conceptualism, citing Fountain, a readymade sculpture by Duchamp in 1917, consisting of a porcelain urinal signed “R. Mutt”. This created a revolutionary stir in the art world.
“Part of my raison d’être is trying instil a way of thinking in creatives that all ideas are valid if you follow them through.”
“Miloman is gaining momentum, the time is right. It is an upcoming brand created out of doodles and now being recognised both locally and gaining attention internationally.”
“This hat collection aligns with one of Miloman’s goals, which is to inspire creatives to explore multiple mediums in all dimensions, there are no limitations here and there are no rules.”
