Celebrating 45 Years Of Freedom: A Concert Honouring Local Talent

A concert will be announced to commemorate the 45th anniversary of freedom, which will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and will feature some of the best local talents under the artistic direction of Maestro Paul Abela.
The concert, organised by the National Celebrations Foundation within Festivals Malta, will be inspired by an interactive series related to the renowned personality Mario Laus, featured in printed newspapers, who sang the top twenty songs of the seventies in our country.

The Minister for The Arts, Owen Bonnici said that Freedom Day this year was special as it commemorated 45 years since this was achieved back on 31st March, 1979. While the day itself of 31st March this year coincided with the important celebration for the Catholic Church of Easter, and was immediately followed by the inauguration of Malta’s new President, he explained that the Ministry and concerned entities made the necessary plans so that after this period, this concert will be announced, and its entry will be completely free and aimed at the whole family.
He stressed that the concert itself not only serves for Maltese and Gozitans families to reflect on the time when Freedom was achieved, but it also provides a beautiful platform for various local artists to showcase their talent.
“I urge everyone not to miss this unique opportunity to relive the past and create new memories together through music,” explained Minister Bonnici.

On her part, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised this initiative, which will celebrate a historic event in our country through music. She said that celebrations like these are important to keep remembering the perseverance of our predecessors and their work for a free and democratic Malta.
“2024 is a year during which many special anniversaries related to our National Festivities will be commemorated. This Freedom Day is the first one, with a big concert commemorating the 45th anniversary of Freedom. The Concert will take place on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024, the day after Freedom Day, in respect to the activities related to Good Friday, Easter, and the inauguration of the new President of the Republic of Malta.”, The Chairman of Festivals Malta Aaron Zahra said.
“This is a concert with a difference. Where the collective memory of 1979 will be revisited through music that was popular that year. There are many thoughts about Independence Day. What’s better than the melodies that accompanied our people’s walk towards independence.” Liam Gauci said.
The Concert will take place on Tuesday, 23rd April at 8:30 pm. This concert is free, and you can reserve your tickets on showshappening.com.
