Disco, Quizzing And Tennis: Check Out This New Triple Bill Coloured With A Maltese Cast And Crew
Three is the lucky number with this one: a triple bill of three thirty-minute brand new plays created by three different teams of Malta’s best up-and-coming writers, directors and performers has just been announced.
The aim of the event is to attract a young adult audience into the theatre to experience an eye-opening evening of contemporary theatre that features disco dancing, an interactive game show, and a tennis match gone wrong.
Chewing Productions is a newly launched independent theatre production house and it proudly announced 3×3 | A Triple Bill of New Theatre at the Theatre Next Door.
The production house is driven by an appetite to create fresh and exciting performing arts events for local audiences, and that’s exactly what it’s done.
The three performances are All The Things I’m Trying T̶o̶ S̶a̶y̶, Who’s Your Daddy? And Thirty-Love.
All The Things I’m Trying T̶o̶ S̶a̶y̶ is a play created by Alex Weenink and it features Michela Farrugia and Anthony Mizzi. It’s a poetic play about two people trying to understand and communicate powerful feelings through language, dance, and more.
The performance is in English but it features a lot of non-verbal action too.
On the other hand, Who’s Your Daddy? Is a play created by Lara Agius featuring Tiana Formosa and Ella Coppini. It’s about a TV game show in a dystopian future where everything is on the line for the invited guest, otherwise known as the “perfectly perfect Katie”.
Overall, this is an interactive play about agency, power, and patriarchy. The performance will be held in English.
Meanwhile, Thirty-Love was created by Nicky Gambin and it features Nikki Demajo Albanese and Martina Zammit. The play is about two cousins exploring experiences of life, friendship, their future hopes, and present worries.
This performance is in Maltese but it contains English subtitles.
The performances will be held on 30th September, 1st and 2nd October. They will run for two hours including a 15-minute interval.
Chewing Productions opened its doors earlier this year, keeping its audiences entertained with A Ritual of Smoke & Mirrors at Klabb Hawaj in February and The MEMO Project at Storeroom in July.
The production house is run by local theatre-makers who are driven by a desire to create innovative performing arts events for local communities, instigate conversation, and generate ideas centred on contemporary realities.
Its work is young, bold, and strives to offer new and exciting experiences to local audiences. You can find more information about the company here.
