This September, Rabat’s Wignacourt Museum will open its doors to a unique international exhibition that brings Malta’s cultural layers into vivid focus. Dreams from Malta: Four Visual Narratives will run from 6th to 29th September, launching on Friday 6th at 7pm.

The collective exhibition unites four artists; Rosen Donchev, Vanya Zapryanova, Kiril Katsarov, and Malta-based Vania Goshe, in a creative dialogue between Bulgaria and Malta. Organised with the support of Prof. Charlene Vella, it forms part of The Road to an Exhibition, a European cultural programme designed to take Bulgarian artistic productions beyond their borders while sparking cross-cultural connections.

Each artist approaches Malta in a distinct way. Donchev’s canvases channel the island’s archaeological depth, reimagining temples and ritual patterns as timeless meditations on history. Zapryanova’s Dreams from Malta explores symbolic themes; dreams, threads, containers, island, through layered collage, acrylics, and textiles. Katsarov, the youngest of the four, builds digital collages that reframe Malta as a living mosaic of cultures and textures, inspired by St John’s Co-Cathedral. Goshe celebrates the island’s daily vibrancy, capturing luzzu boats, fireworks, Mdina’s doors, and Rabat’s markets in bold, expressive paintings.

Beyond the walls of the museum, the project includes films, workshops, and a digital exhibition to reach global audiences. It’s backed by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Culture under its National Plan for Sustainability and Development, with funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU instrument.

The exhibition will be held at the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat, curated by Natasha Noeva. It opens on Friday 6th September at 7pm and will remain on display until 29th September, giving the public three weeks to experience this cross-cultural artistic journey.

Together, these four voices present Malta not only as a physical place but as a metaphor, a crossroad of memory, identity, and continuity. Dreams from Malta is more than an exhibition of images; it’s an invitation to see the island through the eyes of artists weaving their own narratives across borders.
