Established Maltese artist Matthew Attard is currently exhibiting his work alongside world-renowned artists in an ongoing exhibition in Treviso, Italy.

The collective exhibition, Europe Doesn’t Fall From The Sky, includes works from highly-esteemed artists such as Gabriele Basilico, Maurizio Cattelan, and Arcangelo Sassolino among others.

“Back in October, a work of mine was selected by the curators at Fondazione Imago Mundi for a collective exhibition that reflects on Europe via selected contemporary artworks,” Attard told Lovin Malta.

Attard’s featured artwork is titled Eye-tracking drawing of my passport, which consists of a drawing of the artist’s passport made with his eyes.

“This work is a reflection on the legal value of this type of document, on the mobility, it grants or denies depending on the nationality represented, and adds to ongoing conversations about migration in Europe.”

The exhibition kicked off on 15th October and will be open until 11th December, split between four different spaces across Treviso.

Attard currently lives and works between Edinburgh and Malta, and he works primarily with drawing in many forms. Through his works, the artist explores themes such as optical perception, the transformation of everyday life into data, and creativity expressed through technology.

Throughout his artistic career, Attard has exhibited in an impressive number of places, including, Venice, Rome, Valletta, Genoa, London, Beijing, and Los Angeles among other cities.

In one of his practices, Attard draws with an eye-tracker, that is used scientifically to study a sighted person’s degree of attention, emotional reactions, and cognitive processes.

In many of these works he measures the degree of attention, pupil movements, and pauses in scrutinising an object, then downloads the data and translates it into a drawing.
