Find Beauty In All That Is Ugly At This Contemporary Art Exhibition In Birkirkara
A new exhibition exploring the link between contemporary art and Maltese artist Gabriel Caruana’s ethos launched last night at The Mill in Birkirkara. Fluid Space is all about how the public space is being redefined and shifting, and how these developments affect our everyday lives.
The exhibition will juxtapose some of Gabriel Caruana’s pioneering works with three contemporary artists works – and judging from people’s reactions last night, the dichotomy is striking.
“An area dedicated to Gabriel Caruana’s found objects and public art will introduce the exhibition, with displays of new work by the three contemporary artists who have all engaged in a visual dialogue with Malta as it appears to us today,” said Nikki Petroni, curator of the exhibition.
Featuring work from Raffaella Zammit, Aidan Celeste, and Duška Malešević, this collaborative exhibition merges photography, sculpture, found objects, and research to question the dynamics of Malta’s changing urban landscape, social structures, networks, conflicts, communities, strangers, time, and space.
Fluid Space is a project organised in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv and the Gabriel Caruana Foundation as part of the Valletta Visual Arts Festival (VIVA) 2018 programme.
The exhibition is being held at The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre, Birkirkara from Wednesday 18th April until Saturday 12th May. It will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 17:00-19:00, and Saturdays from 16:00-20:00.
The curator’s talk will be held on Saturday 28th April, and a discussion with the three participating artists will follow on Saturday 5th May. These talks form part of the Arts Additives series.
