From Malta To Seoul: Norbert Francis Attard Explores The Art Of Change In New Gozo Exhibition

A new temporary exhibition titled Transitions by Norbert Francis Attard is opening soon at Il-Ħaġar Museum in Gozo.
This exhibition presents a selection of artworks created during key transitional phases in Attard’s artistic career – moments where he was shifting from one style or period of work to the next.
The featured pieces were produced between 1970 and 1999, and many of them highlight his experimentation with found objects, materials, forms, and themes.
Attard, who lives and works between Malta, Gozo, Berlin, and Seoul, is known for constantly exploring new ways of thinking and creating. These artworks reflect that sense of movement and change, both physically and creatively.
Born in 1951, Attard started out as a self-taught painter and graphic artist before moving into installation art in 1998. He studied architecture at the University of Malta and worked in the field for 20 years.
He also spent time in Germany, working with Johannes Dinnebier, a pioneer in light design. Today, his work spans architecture, sculpture, photography, video, and installation, often inspired by places and their layered histories.
Transitions is curated by Dr Nikki Petroni and will be officially launched on Saturday 5th April at 7.30pm. The public is invited to attend the opening event.
The exhibition runs until Sunday 29th June. Il-Ħaġar Museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm, including public holidays.
