Gorgeously Restored Balzan House Gets Nominated For Prestigious International Architecture Award

Old and new have met up in a perfect way thanks to a beautifully-restored Balzan house. And it seems to have gotten the attention of more than just the locals, being shortlisted for one of the most popular international awards in architecture, ever.
Balzan’s Coach House has been restored by the Architecture Project and will be facing off against 17 other buildings from all over the world at the World Architecture Festival‘s Old and New Completed Buildings category. The festival will be going down later this year, between the 28th and 30th of November in Amsterdam.

The Balzan beauty was converted to offer a holistic approach towards amalgamating colloquial architectural styles with contemporary design. Architecture Project and Jens Bruenslow also took into consideration today’s need to be more environmentally friendly in our homes.
“This is the product of the passion we have for our work,” AP Executive Director David Drago said. “We hope this project will serve as a relevant case study on how we can preserve our built heritage while keeping it alive.”
This is not the first entry for the Architecture Project, as they’ve also had shortlisted entries in previous years with Villa Castro, the new Farsons Brewhouse and the St. Barbara’s Bastions, in collaboration with Jens Bruenslow.
81 countries have been shortlisted for this year’s awards, including world-leading architectural firms like Zaha Hadid Architects and OMA.
This magnificent work of architecture in Balzan also won the Din l-Art Ħelwa Awards for Architectural Heritage with an overall Silver Medal in all categories and a first in the Restoration and Regeneration category.
