The Maltese skyline was given an ethereal tinge last night as a lunar eclipse turned the moon blood-red. The lunar eclipse lasted 103 minutes, and is said to be the longest “blood-moon” we will experience in the 21st century. Not only that, but the planet Mars was at its most visible, being closer to earth than it has been in 15 years.
Photographers all over Malta took advantage of the rare circumstance to capture some stunning images of a spectacular moon over the Maltese islands.
The “blood-red” moon was seen in different tinges around Malta
And this incredible shot was captured after a week of planning and a lot of patience
“I’ve planned this for a week using Google Maps and the PhotoPills app on my iPhone. Fortunately I found the exact location I wanted. I took a photo every 10 minutes for the span of two and half hours, and then I merged them into one to show the sequence of the moon,” photographer Fredrick Muscat told Lovin Malta.
Some people made sure to capture Mars alongside the moon
