IN PHOTOS: This Is The Maltese Show People On Your Newsfeed Were Raving About Last Weekend
Maltese social media has been losing it over last weekend’s run of Mamma Mia: The ABBA Musical, and there’s really no surprise why.
The show, which was put on by Theatre FM, featured an all-singing, all-dancing cast of some of the best actors and actresses in Malta and abroad. Their enthusiasm and electric energy gave the already impressive show some unforgettable flavour, and had the crowd in laughing fits throughout.
Featuring West End leading lady Charlotte Gorton as well as the all-star cast of Izzy Warrington, Pia Zammit, Antony Edridge, Ray Calleja, Edward Mercieca, Maxine Aquilina, Thomas Camilleri, Francesco Nicodeme, Jeremy Grech, Nicole Cassar and Tezara Eve Camilleri, the cast gloriously belted out some of ABBA’s biggest hits.
The crowd delighted in the show, and even joined the cast in singing along to classic tracks like Dancing Queen, and Money, Money, Money, and, of course, Mamma Mia itself. Once the reviews were in, it was pretty clear that the show was a roaring success.
Edward Mercieca, the producer of the show, was still ecstatic about the successful weekend run days later.
“It feels like the massive effort we put into producing two massive musicals back to back to a very high standard has paid off,” he said. “It is extremely satisfying to know that so many people have been entertained; one feels appreciated and that is always great. We’re also happy for the the whole team, cast and crew who worked so hard and who put in so many hours. It’s lovely for them to read how much the audiences appreciated their efforts. But of course it’s onwards and upwards, and we’re looking at new projects that will offer employment to performers and creative industry workers and that will also push the boundaries that we ourselves have created by raising the benchmark higher and higher.”
