Interactive Rabat Exhibition By Local Sculptor Gives Tool Making A Unique Spin

An interactive and immersive exhibition by local sculptor Matyou Galea is giving toolmaking a unique and creative spin.

Launched at Rabat’s Studio Solipsis, RE:// Apparat explores the notion of tool-making against drawing.

Set within a playful environment, the original exhibition juxtaposes function with dysfunction, for purpose or for none.

“Toolmaking is a physical or externalized approach to problem-solving (or problem creating). As a sculptor, I tend to understand the world as a series of scenarios where objects engage with other objects, or individuals or abstract fleeting thoughts and intangible ideas,” Galea said while discussing the inspiration behind the work.

“Toolmaking extends one’s reasoning, one’s approach to their preoccupation – it is a process for attaining mental clarity, an opportunity to intervene physically in conceptual or theoretical notions by physically modifying the world around you,” he continues.

While RE:// Apparat was set to launch on Thursday, the launch was postponed due to the severe weather and was held over the weekend.

This project forms part of Studio Solipsis’ Programme of Events for 2022/23, which is supported by Arts Council Malta.
