‘It All Felt Like A Scene From A Movie’: Local Photographer Snaps Magical Sight On Venice Ferry
Local talent Lorella Castillo strikes again, snapping surreal imagery from the world around us.
While waiting for the vaporetto ferry to take her to the Venice Biennale, Castillo said that her mind was already in the realm of art, as it tends to be when in such an artistic location.
“Then, in came this gentleman, sat down, opened up his newspaper and got completely absorbed in it,” said Castillo in a Facebook post, “The warm, soft afternoon light surrounded him, creating a moment that felt almost magical.”
The cogs in Castillo’s brain seemed to have started turning, as she was quick to snap the moment and develop something “like a scene from a movie.”
“His bright red headwear and yellow bag caught my eye, creating a lovely colour combination,” she continued, “I tried to frame him in a way that felt balanced and harmonious.”

The fruits of her labours are evident, successfully encompassing the warmth within the scene, further immersing us in the moment.
“In that instant, I forgot all about the Biennale and got lost in the beauty of that simple moment,” Lorella concluded, “We ended up missing more than just one vaporetto, but I didn’t care; Venice had this way of capturing my heart.”
Earlier this year, Castillo had the nation in stitches by using her talents to create the satirical San Dumu and San Ixegħlu, the patron saints of all things inconvenient in Malta.
From satire to surrealism, this photographer simply never misses.
